Brickyard VFX christened the opening of its newly-expanded Santa Monica studio space with a wrestling match that also marked the Mexican holiday Cinco de Mayo.

Ad agency Sid Lee officially opened the doors on a new outpost in the French capital with a launch party on May 6th. Led by managing partner and creative director Sylvain Thirache, CEO Johan Delpuech and agency co-founder Bertrand Cesvet, the new office will handle creative duties for Ubisoft, beer brand Kronenbourg 1664, Eurostar, Grimbergen, Mondial de l’automobile and Coca-Cola.

Drinks were poured, winning work was shown and awards were handed out at the 11th annual First Boards Awards party, held in Final Cut and Absolulte’s studio space in New York, on May 5th.

Paris-based production company Wanda held its second directors showcase event, la crème de la crème (”the best of the best”) at Paris’ school of cinema, FEMIS, on April 16th. This year was all about showcasing the work of the Spy Films directors that Wanda recently signed for representation in the French market: Ben Steiger Levine, Trevor Cawood and Arev Manoukian.

Post house Smoke & Mirrors, New York feted the arrival of its new color grading system with a packed house at its Soho studio on April 22nd. Party-goers warmed up with cocktails followed by an evening of elbow-rubbing, interactive entertainment and dancing. Visit our gallery of photos from the event.

The spring award show season kicked off on Wednesday, April 7 with the 2010 ANDY Awards, held at The Times Center in New York. The evening’s big winner was Replay, a documentary-style branded content series from sports drink Gatorade and TBWA\Chiat\Day, Los Angeles, which took home the GRANDY prize in the earned media category.

After a day of thought-provoking content from some of Adland’s smartest brains at the Boards Summit Europe last week, delegates headed to Amsterdam’s Winston Kingdom bar to sweat off some post-Summit steam courtesy of music house Sizzer and electro-hardcore band Aux Raus, ably assisted by FNNNN and the Advertising Allstars DJ team.
