From the May issue: Where are the women directors?

A roundtable of industry voices sheds light on a persistent problem

"Find me a woman who can direct comedy like a guy and I'll make... whatever is left of my mark-ups." It sounds like a punch line that will elicit deafening silence in a packed house, but it's an unfortunately true insight when it comes to the continuing lack of women directors in the ad industry.

Epoch Films EP Jerry Solomon made the observation on his Confessions of an Executive Producer blog in January. So we invited him and a roundtable of women in the industry, including BBDO, New York EVP/director of TV production Regina Ebel; newly-signed Epoch director Jessica Sanders; Prettybird, Santa Monica co-founder/EP Kerstin Emhoff; UK-based Trio Films director Jackie Oudney; Park Pictures, NY owner/EP Jackie Kelman Bisbee and Psyop, NY co-founder/director Marie Hyon to provide their take on why the lack of female directors continues to persist.

Read the roundtable "Where They Ain't", which appears in the May 2010 issue of Boards, here.
