Alex Bogusky, MDC Partners' new chief creative insurgent.

Two weeks after MDC Partners named Alex Bogusky chief creative insurgent, the Crispin Porter + Bogusky partner and co-chairman has posted a note he sent to the agency network following the announcement on his blog to shed more light on his new role: "Chief Creative Insurgent is not another way of saying Global Creative Director. I won't be flying from client to client pressing the flesh. I won't be going from MDC agency to agency reviewing the work," he wrote. "An insurgent is defined as someone who challenges the status quo. My job is to question the very definition of marketing and communications and corporate structure." The job will also include writing a book and creating a series of MDC forums and seminars. Bogusky will divide his time between the agency's Boulder office and a little cottage in downtown Boulder he's dubbed "The Ivory Cottage".

BBDO, New York has hired three new executive creative directors: Mathias Appelblad, formerly an interactive creative director at Swedish shop Forsman & Bodenfors, who also becomes director of innovation (read an interview with Appelblad here); former BBDO, Dusseldorf CCO Toygar Bazarkaya and Ralph Watson, formerly SVP, creative director and head of art at Saatchi & Saatchi, New York.

Iain Tait, co-founder of London-based digital agency Poke, is leaving the agency to relocate to Wieden+Kennedy, Portland. Tait co-founded Poke in 2001 with Peter Beech, Nick Farnhill, Tom Hostler, Nicolas Roope and Simon Waterfall. A spokesperson for W+K would not confirm details of Tait's new role.

Founders of the boutique New York shop Toy have announced that the agency will shutter its operations by the end of March. Toy, which has a staff of 10, was founded in 2005. It was led by partners Anne Bologna and Ari Merkin, both formerly of Fallon, New York and David Dabill. "While we've created what we believe to be a great agency, our ambitions for this venture were and are larger, and we always intended to stay true to the high standards we set for ourselves at the outset," Merkin said in a statement. "Thanks to our wonderful clients, colleagues and peers, we're proud to bring Toy to a close in the same manner as we have always operated - thoughtfully and on our own terms."

AKQA, London has hired creative team Mark Nicholson and Mat Fox, previously of TBWA\London and WCRS, to work on all accounts.
