Bill Bruce's directorial debut; Onedotzero ident software available; ADC Young Guns winners and more
BBDO's "Feet On Head" film for New Balance marks the directorial debut of CCO Bill Bruce.

•BBDO CCO BILL BRUCE'S DIRECTORIAL DEBUT> BBDO, New York launched a campaign for sneaker brand New Balance on Monday that's timed to coincide with the New York marathon. The commercial, "Feet On Head", marks the directorial debut of the agency CCO Bill Bruce and features a man running through the city with a pair of feet protruding from his forehead. Though ASICS is the official running shoe sponsor of the marathon, BBDO is hoping New Balance will steal some of the spotlight with the campaign, which will air more than one million times on taxi cab TVs during the week. •ONEDOTZERO MAKES IDENT SOFTWARE AVAILABLE> Digital arts film festival onedotzero has made the branded identity software created by Wieden+Kennedy, London and Universal Everything programmer Karsten Schmidt available for free download via Google. This year's identity used data visualization software to create a colorful, continuously-updating live feed of words and thoughts from online sources, such as Twitter. The software was also adapted for an installation at BFI Southbank in London that allowed users to send messages and then manipulate them using a Nokia N900. [link]

•ADC YOUNG GUNS WINNERS ANNOUNCED> The Art Directors Club announced 50 winners of the ADC Young Guns 7, its annual portfolio-based competition for creatives under age 30. The top-ranked winners also received ADC Young Guns-Moleskine grants. Germany's Siggi Eggertsson received $1,000 and runners up Nexus Productions directors Fx&Mat of France and Mario Hugo from the US both received $250. This year's winners included Hornet Inc. directors PetPunk, Mixtape Club and Yves Geleyn, Boards Director to Watch 2009 Sean Pecknold, Director to Watch '08 Benjamin Steiger Levine and Nexus director Johnny Kelly.

•UK MVA WINNERS ANNOUNCED> Shynola's Coldplay video "Strawberry Swing" was the big winner at the 2009 UK Music Video Awards, picking up honors for Video of The Year and best animated video. The awards were handed out on Oct. 14 at a gala in London hosted by comedian Adam Buxton. Other winners include Colonel Blimp/Blinkink director David Wilson, who won best new director and RSA Films director Dawn Shadforth, who accepted the Icon Award from singer Alison Goldfrapp. See the full list of winners on the UK MVA site.

•PARTIZAN DIRECTOR RELEASES KANYE TOUR BOOK> As usual, Kanye West was all over the news this week. First he released an 11-minute short film directed by Spike Jonze and then dubious rumors of his untimely death spread like wildfire across Twitter. Less publicized was the release of his Kanye West: Glow in the Dark book by Partizan director Nabil that takes an in-depth look at his sc-fi-themed tour from 2008. The book features photos by Nabil and an interview by Jonze. It was designed by Base Design and published by Rizzoli Publications. [link]
