Droga5 wins two Black Pencils at D&AD Awards
Four Black Pencils and 54 Yellow Pencils awarded

New York ad agency droga5 won two Black Pencils at the D&AD Awards for its Million campaign, which put cell phones in New York City classrooms to improve grades, and The Great Schlep, a web film in which comedian Sarah Silverman urged young Jews to convince their Floridian grandparents to vote for Obama in last year's presidential election.
Four Black Pencils and 54 Yellow Pencils were awarded in total. Million won in the Integrated category and The Great Schlep won for Writing in Viral. The other two Black Pencil winners were Matt Dent's redesign of UK coins for the Royal Mint in the Graphic Design category and German interactive studio Art+Com's Kinetic Sculpture for BMW in the Environmental Design category.
"The breadth of creative work that's been awarded this year is exceptional. We're in the midst of a challenging time, and this work shows what the industry is capable of," D&AD president Garrick Hamm said in a statement. "The four Black Pencil winners demonstrate the power and all-encompassing nature of creativity - in education, politics and even in the change in our pockets. These winners are more than just great pieces of communication, they change our behavior and touch our lives."
Another big winner was New York-based production company Ghost Robot, which picked up three Yellow Pencils for the Encyclopedia Pictura-directed Björk video "Wanderlust". Zoo Films director James Frost's camera-less "House of Cards" video for Radiohead also picked up a Yellow Pencil in the music video category.
Three Yellow Pencils were awarded in the online advertising category for GT, Tokyo's Love Distance site for Sagami condoms, Crispin Porter + Bogusky's Whopper Sacrifice Facebook app for Burger King and BBH, London's Break The Cycle online campaign for Barnardo's.
In the film categories, TBWA\Chiat\Day, New York won a Yellow Pencil for Skittles "Pinata", UK broadcaster More4 picked up a Pencil for its "Stanley Kubrick Season" promo and MJZ won a Pencil for Special Effects for Coca-Cola "It's Mine". Two Pencils were awarded in the Writing in Advertising category, one to Mother, London for Orange "Snoop Dogg", "Angelica Huston" and "Rob Lowe", and another to Goodby Silverstein & Partners for Comcast "Rabbit".
Microsites for potato chip brands also did well. Goodby picked up a Yellow Pencil in the Microsite category for Doritos, "Hotel 626", designed by B-Reel, as did Mekanism for Frito-Lay "NOLAF".
