•SUPER BOWL ROUND UP> Now that the confetti has been swept up and the colored sports drinks have dried on Super Bowl XLII, we at Boards have taken stock of how much money advertisers spent on this year's media buys: An average of $2.7 million for 30 seconds - or $90,000 per second. Nielsen Media reports that 97.5 million people tuned in to this year's broadcast, making it the second most-watched program in US television history (the series finale of M*A*S*H in 1983 is still number one). • 180 AMSTERDAM, MIKE MILLS PUBLISH BOOKS> 180 Amsterdam has designed and published the 266-page Power Within, a compendium of the personal stories of hardship told by world-famous athletes in the agency's "Impossible Is Nothing" campaign for adidas. The integrated campaign aimed to break the mold of dull, clichéd sports advertising by exploring the grittier side of athleticism. The book will accompany a traveling art exhibit at sporting events worldwide, culminating at the Beijing Games. In other book news, The Directors Bureau co-founder Mike Mills (who "temporarily retired from retirement" last year to direct the odd spot and video) has published a 20-page book of abstract drawings inspired by Fireworks. Simply titled Fireworks, it is available through Zurich-based publisher Nieves.
