RSA recruits RAF; Cut + Run gets David Checel; feature helmer Roger Michell goes Crossroads; plus more moves at Kaboom, BBDO New York and elsewhere...
RSA and Blackdog Films have signed Swedish directors, Jonas Akerlund and Johan Renck for representation in the United States and the United Kingdom. RSA will handle all commercial work and Black Dog will represent them for music videos. Akerlund and Renck departed from HSI/Exposure Films in January, where they had been for six years. They will continue to run their production company, RAF, in their native Stockholm.

New York agency Powell hired Mark Sloan as art director. Sloan has previously worked at the Rose League and 86 the Onions, and has freelanced for Crispin Porter + Bogusky.

Cut + Run in Santa Monica hired editor David Checel, who will be based in California but will be available through the edit house's New York and London offices. Checel recently completed work for Gatorade and is currently editing Outkast's feature film. He was previously at Filmcore where he cut for clients such as MasterCard, ESPN Sportscenter, Nike, Diet Coke, Target and Budweiser, plus videos for Outkast, Eminem, Missy Elliot and Black Eyed Peas.

Roger Michell, director of Enduring Love, The Mother, Notting Hill and Changing Lanes joined bicoastal Crossroads Films. The affiliation comes as a result of Crossroads' ongoing relationship with Cowboy Films in London, which represents Michell in Europe.

Hill, Holliday Hispanic named Gustavo Lopez senior copywriter in the agency's Miami office. Lopez joins the agency from del Rivero Messianu/DDB in Miami, Florida where he spent the previous four and a half years as a copywriter. Prior, he served as a producer at McCann-Erickson in Bogotá, Colombia.

San Francisco's Kaboom Productions has expanded to include production services. Its first service job came from Mexico City for client TelCel, and was directed by Distrito Films' Oliver Castro.

BBDO, New York welcomed Todd Tilford as executive creative director, director of visual communications. In this role, Tilford will help launch a new in-house design capability for clients and will oversee the agency's studio and print production departments. Tilford comes to BBDO from TM Advertising in Irving, TX, where he was a creative director.

Hollywood's DNA/David Naylor & Associates signed directors Thom Oliphant and Steven Goldmann for exclusive music video and commercial representation. Oliphant is known for his award-winning videos for Martina McBride and the Dixie Chicks. Goldmann has directed for artists such as Bruce Springsteen, Faith Hill, Shania Twain, Alan Jackson, Martina McBride, and Brooks and Dunn among others.

New York post-production company Homestead Editorial hired editor Erik Johnson. Johnson joins the company from Crew Cuts, where he began his career before moving to Ian Mackenzie editorial in 1994, and has been since 2001. Johnson has cut for Nike, E*Trade, British Airways, Pepsi and the PBA.

New York's Curious Pictures has expanded its reach with a global web of creative content and design companies. Most recently, New York design company INTERpectacular has allied with Curious Pictures and has completed several projects for Target and ad agency Mother. Los Angeles-based 5.1 Production Services, a division of 5.1 Entertainment Group, promoted Sandi Taylor to the newly created position of VP, production. Taylor will spearhead the company's ongoing move into the production of original music content, while continuing to be responsible for the company's sales and marketing efforts.
