The DGA feted the winners of their 2004 Directors Guild of America Outstanding Directorial Achievement Awards in posh style at the Beverly Hilton in Beverly Hills this past Sunday night, and Noam Murro of Biscuit Filmworks finally emerged with the award for Outstanding Directorial Achievement in Commercials.
Hosted by comedian Carl Reiner for the nineteenth time, celebrity presenters included everyone from Paul Giamatti (Sideways) to Teri Hatcher (Desperate Housewives), and even Oscar nominees like Cate Blanchett, Jamie Foxx and Leonardo DiCaprio.
The competition for the top commercial prize was fierce, including worthy contenders Dante Ariola (MJZ), Fredrik Bond (MJZ), Jim Jenkins (Hungry Man), and Andrew Douglas (Anonymous Content). But Murro clearly had a remarkable and prolific year, and was recognized for his strong work. The DGA's judging was based on three spots across different genres: "Glen" (Starbuck's), "Carry" (Adidas) and "Toy Boat" (ebay). Murro had received nominations in both 2003 and 2002 before claiming the prize this year.
