by: Sep 4, 2003 Print

The glitter and glam of last Thursday's MTV Video Music Awards left many basking in the glow of Moonmen. Jamie Thraves of Oil Factory walked away with the top directorial honor for Coldplay's "Scientist", along with honors for best breakthrough video and best group video.

Others whose work was thrice honored included Francis Lawrence of DNA for his Justin Timberlake videos, and Jake Nava of FM Rocks for his work on Beyonce Knowles' "Crazy in Love".

Directors Shynola and London effects shop Clear received the Best Special Effects award for Queens of the Stone Age's trippy, stylized video. Best Editing went to Olivier Gajan for the White Stripes' "Seven Nation Army", directed by Alex & Martin of Partizan, while Best Cinematography went to Jean-Yves Escoffier for Johnny Cash's "Hurt", directed by Mark Romanek of Anonymous.

In addition to the winning videos, the award bumpers were also of note. The diverse intros were created by a Who's Who of design names including MK12, Lobo, Nakd, Shynola, Fischerspooner, Logan, Jager Dipalo Kemp, Brand New School, Crook, Mr. McElwaine, MTV Design, Stiletto and yU+co.
