Straight 8 Film Festival

Film wimps need not apply

Got a Super8 camera? Good. Need some film? No problem. The guerilla filmmaking festival Straight 8, founded by London-based commercial directors Ed Sayers and Ben Gregors of London's Godman, is accepting submissions for the Autumn 2003 installment of the festival.

Started in 1999, and this year added to the official program of the Cannes Film Festival, the non-competitive festival encourages filmmaking in its rawest sense.

Directors receive one cartridge of black & white Kodak tri-x reversal film. Films must be 3 minutes 20 seconds in length, with no edits.

Here's the catch: completed films must be submitted exposed, but not developed with an accompanying CD soundtrack. Spectators and directors alike view the films for the first time at the Straight 8 screening, held October 16, 2003 at The Other Cinema in London's Soho.

Interested filmmakers are required to enter for their roll of film online at http://www.straight8.net but July 31, 2003. Films must be shot between August 8 and September 10.

Also in October is the APA Straight 8 Agency Shoot Out, a charity event where ad agencies compete against each other in a charity Straight 8 screening at BAFTA on October 10th 2003, as part of the APA show.
