PostWorks scoops up Tapehouse, SMA
CEO says multiple acquisitions driven by desire for talent
New York-based PostWorks looks set to become a post powerhouse after its recent spending spree.
This week the company announced its takeover of beleaguered neighbor Tapehouse and all affiliates including Tapehouse Editorial, Digital Film and Broadband, as well as Black Logic and The Anx.
PostWorks also purchased NY-based SMA Realtime, which, like Tapehouse, was in Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection and already under PostWorks' management. At the same time, PostWorks acquired 50% of audio post shop Caterini Studios, also of NY.
"PostWorks is stepping in to save the best parts of these companies and to consolidate them into a premier facility that will easily rival the likes of Company 3 and Rhino," says PostWorks CEO Billy Baldwin.
He adds that although the move will enable his company to offer a wider range of services such as HD, visual effects, animation and audio, "it's really more about the people than the equipment."
A five-year pioneer of HD solutions for film and broadcast, PostWorks was already contemplating a growth strategy when these opportunities presented themselves, Baldwin says.
No word on when the integration will be finalized, but the company is currently consolidating its operations into a 55,000-square-foot facility in New York's Soho section - except for The Anx, which will stay in its downtown Manhattan facility.
Current commercial projects for PostWorks include Plavix for Ogilvy & Mather and ExLax for Grey Worldwide.
