Rockstar Games, the developer of hit counterculture console games such as the Grand Theft Auto series, has issued a call for entries in its 2nd Annual Online Media Awards.
The deadline for entries is July 1, 2002 and awards are presented across four categories. Multimedia (accepting entries in Flash and Director, maximum size 5MB, prize $1,500 US), Short Subject Film (three to 30 minutes in length, .mpg or .mov format, prize $5,000 US), DJ Mix (mixes between 30 and 60 minutes, .mp3, .wav and .asf formats, prize $2,000 US) and Short Story (400 to 2,500 words, Word, Acrobat or HTML, prize $1,500 US). Winners will be announced in September 2002.
States a company release: "In the spirit of its rich tradition of creative audacity and revolt, Rockstar Games will host a colorful digital pageant: Upload - a conduit showcasing the highest ideals of men and women both east and west. Upload is an ongoing effort to safeguard the world from cultural hegemony. Rockstar strongly believes in the sovereignty of all people and their freedom to express their independence and self-determination. By providing a forum for aggressive action and by elevating attempts at originality, Rockstar advances the future of cultural, educational and technological progress."
