by: Mar 20, 2002 Print

The 2002 British Television Advertising Awards (BTAA) named Bartle Bogle Hegarty (BBH) the year's most successful ad agency and handed similar, production-centric honors to Gorgeous Enterprises.

John Hegarty of BBH also received the Chairman's Award for his outstanding contribution to the commercials industry. The ITV Award for the Best TV Commercial of the Year was awarded to Stella Artois "Doctor" out of Lowe & Partners, directed by Stink's Ivan Zacharias.

Gorgeous' pile of BTAA glory was brought home largely by director Frank Budgen, who received five gold prizes, one for Reebok "Sofa" out of Lowe & Partners, two for Levi's "Twist" for BBH and two for his overseas work for Wieden + Kennedy, Portland, Nike's "Shade Running" and "Tag." "Sofa" also snagged Budgen and Gorgeous a Silver prize, as did Nike "Tailgating," directed by Tom Carty; the Chris Palmer-directed PSA for Kick Racism Out Of Football, "Dear White Fella" for M&C Saatchi, won two silver BTAA awards.

Mother and Harry Nash director Fredrik Bond's Super Noodles "Face Off" picked up two gold prizes, as did McCann-Erickson Manchester and Spectre director Daniel Kleinman's Durex spot, "Square." The condom campaign ("Square," "Estate Agent" and "Bus Stop") also snagged Kleinman and McCann a silver award, and, the directors work with BBH for Lynx, "Seagull" and "Turtle" garnered Spectre two additional silver prizes.

BBH's latest effort for Levi's, the Jonathan Glazer-directed, special effects driven "Odyssey," pulled in a gold prize for Academy Productions, and Frederic Planchon's "Seats" for American Airlines through BMP DDB snagged a silver for the company.
