John O'Keeffe succeeds Bruce Crouch as executive creative director at BBH, London. Crouch was one of five senior directors who recently left BBH in May to launch new agency Soul.
O'Keeffe began his advertising career as a copywriter at Saatchi & Saatchi in 1984. He continued his creative ways by jumping fence to BBH in 1990, gathering awards for work on Audi, Levi's, One2One and K Shoes. O'Keeffe was made creative director in 1998.
"As James Brown said, I feel good like I knew that I would," says O'Keeffe when asked of his new role within BBH. "I feel great, especially as it comes at a time when all things digital & interactive are increasingly to the fore."
"It's an exciting time to be in the business," continues O'Keeffe. "BBH has never been in better shape - the creative department is bigger than ever - and seven Cannes Lions (three golds, three silvers and a bronze) is the sort of first day news I like."
O'Keeffe has little resentment that Soul has been formed. "They're all mates of mine," explains O'Keeffe. He is confident that the Soul brothers will "make a great success of their venture: they really had a good apprenticeship [here at BBH]."
