Blue Sky Studios Sidesteps Commercials in Favor of Features

New York based computer animation company Blue Sky Studios has decided to temporarily halt its commercial activities to focus on film and feature effects.

Chuck Richardson, senior VP/general manager of Blue Sky Studios, believes the new focus on creating fully computer-animated feature films is an exciting step, but is quick to point out that the change is for an undetermined period.

"Blue Sky has a reputation for the highest quality CGI character animation and commercial work which we do not want to jeopardize," explains Richardson. "Rather than stretch our capabilities too far, we have decided to institute a hiatus in commercial production for an indefinite period."

"The studio will, of course, complete all contracted work, but we will not bid any new commercial projects," continues Richardson. "Due to the increased workload inherent in creating feature films and finishing our commercial commitments, we do not anticipate any immediate layoffs. We fully intend to integrate as many of the commercial group into our growing feature film production team as is practical."

Blue Sky Studios is currently in pre-production on "Ice Age," a fully animated feature film with parent company 20th Century Fox Animation Studios.
