The D&AD has released the results of its annual competition today with juries selecting 560 entries to go into the awards Annual. Of those entries, 135 have been nominated for a D&AD Pencil.
The TV & Cinema Crafts Jury topped the other categories with 30 nominations. Work nominated under this category celebrates a broad spectrum of the craft of commercial-making including production design, direction, cinematography and editing. The nominees for directing included James Boags "Pure Waters" from Revolver Films' Steve Rogers and Publicis Mojo, Sydney; Barnardo's "Turn Around" from Gorgeous Enterprises' Chris Palmer and BBH, London; adidas "House Party" from Partizan's Nima Nourizadeh and Sid Lee, Montreal; Careerbuilder.com "Tips" from MJZ's Tom Kuntz and Wieden+Kennedy, Portland and COI "Breathe" from Blink's Dougal Wilson and RKCR/Y&R, London.
In the Digital Advertising category, the Cannes Grand Prix-winning Philips "Carousel" via Stink's Adam Berg and Tribal DDB, Amsterdam was the only web ads nominee among six entries, including the GRANDY winning Gatorade "Replay" from Caviar Content's Kris Belman and V. Scott Balcerek and TBWA\Chiat\Day.
D&AD judging, which took place from April 19 to 22, was affected by the volcanic ash cloud that resulted from the eruption of the Eyjafjallajokull volcano in Iceland. Earlier in the week, D&AD released a contingency plan stating that judging would go ahead but, wherever possible, remote judging would be implemented for those unable to travel to London. A reserve bank of UK judges was also formed for those unable to attend or participate remotely, but the international vote remained strong with judges from Brazil, the US, Canada and the Netherlands casting their votes remotely.
D&AD Pencil winners will be announced online at the D&AD Awards Ceremony and Dinner on June 3, while Student Awards nominations will be announced beginning on May 11.
