BJ'RK> WANDERLUST
It's no secret that Encyclopedia Pictura's production stories are as epic as the serene yet surreal music videos the San Francisco-based duo creates. And "Wanderlust" is hardly an exception. But watching it, all worldly concerns fade away as a "relentlessly restless" Björk plays out an existential crisis atop a herd of sad-eyed water buffalo, racing down a river of stringy sound waves toward what Werner Herzog might call "the indifferent arms of nature." Jaw-droppingly beautiful, "Wanderlust" exceeds even Björk's standards for mysterious metaphorical kookiness. Encyclopedia Pictura are the force in music videos to contend with. DIONYSOS & OLIVIA RUIZ> TAIS-TOI MON COEUR
The French novel, La mécanique du coeur, doesn't seem content to spend life on a bookshelf. Written by Dionysos' singer Mathias Malzieu, its story - about a man who must always remain calm because his heart has been replaced by a cuckoo clock - is also a concept album and the subject of two beautifully-detailed CG music videos. Soon it'll be a 3D animated feature produced by Luc Besson and co-directed by Malzieu and Stéphane Berla. And if Berla's playfully crass, 19th century sci-fi slapstick take on the tale in "Tais-toi mon coeur" is any indication, the movie version will be a delight. UTAH SAINTS> SOMETHING GOOD '08
Picture it, Cardiff 1989: A handful of people are quietly spending St. David's Day in the pub when a lone hipster enters, struts confidently to the dance floor and unleashes a dance craze that will circle the world over: The Running Man. In this video for the electro remix of the old Utah Saints' Kate Bush-sampling dance hit, London-based Eran Creevy punctates an insanely good synchronized dance routine with funny interview clips of dumbfounded bar patrons. This video makes you want to climb through your computer monitor and join the fun. [Prodco: Between the Eyes/Sleeper USA; Label: Ministry of Sound] KR
