DDB San Francisco director of broadcast David Verhoef
by: Jan 1, 2007 Print

What's the most exciting reel you've come across lately?
Guy Manwaring with Therapy Films.

Agency producing is to ______ as _______ is to _______.
Agency producing is to World Importance as Paris Hilton is to Acting.

The best cost-cutting tip you've picked up over the years?
Don't bring the creative director on the shoot.

Your best excuse for going over budget?
"The only flights we could get had a layover in Amsterdam."

Your favorite location for shooting abroad?
Tokyo on an expense account.

The best turndown line you've ever heard?
Last year we had a conference call with Noam Murro for the Xbox 360 project I produced. Noam got on the call last and said, "I don't want to do your stupid job." And then hung up. It was fantastic. Took the wind out of everyone's sails. He called back a couple of minutes later.

The commercial you remember the most from your youth.
Apple "1984." It's why I started my career at Chiat\Day.

Do you TiVo?
Yes, and so do my daughters. They won't watch commercials in their cartoons. I hope they like the local community college.

Your reputation in the industry (in your opinion)?
He doesn't suck.

The most memorable "act of god"?
Getting Terry Gilliam to direct a commercial because one of his features had fallen apart at the last minute. Our spot wasn't half bad and Terry wanted to keep his team employed for a month while they looked for other work.

What's on your iPod?
Showtunes. And yep, I live in San Francisco. Let the jokes begin.

If you wrote your memoirs, what would the title be?
When Are You Going To Cut Your Hair?

What's your favorite swear word?
Pytka.

David Verhoef joined DDB San Francisco as director of broadcast production this summer. Prior to that, he spent seven years as a freelance producer in San Francisco.
