Guinness tops Gunn Report
"noitulovE", MJZ, DDB London, BBDO most awarded of last year
The eighth annual Gunn Report, which tallies the results of international award shows, was released November 1, and no surprise, the Cannes Grand Prix-winning Guinness "noitulovE" from AMV.BBDO, London topped the list as the year's most awarded commercial. Daniel Kleinman's reverse ode to those who wait was followed by Sony "Balls" from Fallon, London and MJZ director Nicolai Fuglsig, and Carlton Draught "Big Ad" from George Patterson Y&R and Plaza Films director Paul Middleditch.
"Noitulove" and "Balls" helped Great Britain top seven-year incumbent the US as the most awarded country. France maintained its third place spot, but shared it with Argentina.
Volkswagen was once again the most awarded advertiser in the world, a position it's held for six of the last seven years, followed by Sony, Nike, Honda and Adidas.
MJZ topped the production company list for the second year in a row, logging 54 points, one of the highest scores in the category. It was followed by Bangkok's Phenomena, London's Gorgeous, London's Stink and Landia of Buenos Aires.
Thailand's Thanonchai Sornsrivichai of Phenomena was ranked the first placed director for the third time in eight years. Landia's Andy Fogwill vaulted from number 11 to number two and Daniel Kleinman (Kleinman Productions, now Rattling Stick) moved from fourth to third. Fourth place is shared by Ivan Zacharias (Stink) and Luciano Podcaminsky (Rebolucion) while Frank Budgen (Gorgeous) placed sixth. Park Pictures' Joachim Back ranked seventh this year, marking his first time on the Gunn Report top director's list, and tied with Biscuit's Noam Murro. Nicolai Fuglsig of MJZ and Glue Society round out the top 10.
DDB London was ranked the most awarded agency followed by TBWA/Paris. AMV.BBDO London placed third, tied with Crispin Porter + Bogusky and Dentsu (Tokyo and Osaka). Wieden + Kennedy, London and Dentsu were the most awarded agencies for TV. BBDO was the most awarded agency network followed by DDB, TBWA, JWT and Leo Burnett.
