Mark Chu, Yessian

Finalist: Composers

JUST THE FACTS: Age - 29; Hometown - Los Angeles, CA; Education - Degree in sociology from the University of California @ Riverside; Employ - Yessian since Oct. 2004.

ROCK AND ROLL RESUMÉ: Among the high school garage bands Chu dabbled in was a "funk rock, Chili Peppers-style" band dubbed, curiously, Black Bra. Just prior to hooking up with Yessian, he got a deal with progressive house label Baroque/Method Records under the moniker Central Rush - a new record has just been released.

WHAT HE LOVES MOST ABOUT THE JOB: "I found these guys when I was kind of getting bored with doing one style of music," he says. "Here, every day is a different thing, and as a musician that's great. You can do a country song one day and hip-hop the next - nothing's limiting you."

BEST WORK: Chu is chuffed about the theme work he's recently completed for the NHL on OLN. His evocative soundtrack for "LFA", a Lexus Japan spot submitted for First Boards, marries orchestral blasts with skittering beats and piano arpeggios - call it 'symphonica'.

DREAM "HELLO TOMORROW"-STYLE COLLABO: "For females, it'd be Esthero. For males - he'd never go for it, but Thom Yorke would be interesting."
