Crandall Miller, The Whitehouse

Finalist: Editors

JUST THE FACTS: Age - 27; Hometown - Goshen, IN; Education - BFA in film and television production from California's Chapman University; Employ - with The Whitehouse for five years, full-fledged editor for 18 months.

PREVIOUS EXPERIENCE: A film nut from his early years, Miller was "on the path to being a DP" until meeting mentor Robert C. Jones (Days Of Thunder, Bulworth) at Chapman. Upon graduating in 2001, he started with The Whitehouse as a runner, and eventually worked his way up to an editor position.

WHAT HE LOVES MOST ABOUT THE JOB: The singular rush of puzzle-solving in the edit. "You have the footage that you have and you have to figure out how to make it work."

BEST WORK: The Associates In Science-directed Beck video "Black Tambourine", which presents the pocket-sized indie star as a moving silhouette comprised of ASCII characters.

EDITOR ROBERT RYANG famously TURNED THE SHINING INTO A ROM-COM. WHAT FILM WOULD HE RE-EDIT and into what?: "I'd turn Sling Blade into an intellectual thriller and Planet Of The Apes into the prequel to Look Who's Talking."
