A quickie with an agency producer

Chris Rossiter, EVP/director of broadcast production, Leo Burnett USA, discusses his traveling political debate roadshow, why certain crews infuriated him during the LA riots and why his kids need Treos too.

What's the most exciting reel you've come across lately?
There isn't any one. There are a lot of good "unknowns" out there. More than people realize.

The best or your favorite location for shooting abroad?
I have yet to have a bad experience shooting outside the US. I've particularly enjoyed Brazil and Argentina. It's always interesting to talk US politics outside the US. I think everyone else is more passionate about us than we are. The futbol isn't bad either.

The best turndown line you've ever heard?
"I might be getting married the weekend you want to shoot." How do you negotiate that? Even if you could, "might"? I asked when he thought he might know for sure.

Your stress relief of choice?
Spending time with my family, though my kids are as busy as anyone in advertising. It's amazing to watch them grow, and they're a constant reminder that work is work and nothing more.

Your reputation in the industry (in your opinion)?
No games. No BS. No time for either.

The most memorable "act of god"?
The LA riots would be my best answer, in part because the question put "act of god" in quotes. I got pretty angry when some people wanted to get paid for those days. We were concerned for people's lives and they were demanding their day rates.

The most memorable display of diplomacy?
I'm not sure diplomacy is my strongest suit. I may be the only producer in history to beg a director to keep my own writer away from me. The good part is the director understood and did it.

If you didn't work in advertising, what would you do?
Play and/or coach soccer. Or drink and golf.

A 17-year agency veteran, Chris Rossiter graduated from Indiana University with a degree in communications and was a member of the 1983 NCAA National Championship soccer team.
