Röyksopp> "What Else Is There"

Denmark's Martin De Thurah turns in his first great video for Academy Films with this moody, atmospheric piece for Norway's Röyksopp. Shot in glowing blues and dusky greys, the uneasy "What Else Is There" complements the song's weightlessness with all sorts of gravity-defying imagery of its own. A fair-skinned Scandivanian hovers across a wheatfield as she lip syncs the song; meanwhile, a massive barn, its foundations crumbling, floats off into the night. Gorgeously shot and beautifully paced, this suggests De Thurah has it in him to make art videos with Tarsem-proportioned gravitas. One of the best of the year, hands down. Ms. Dynamite> "Father"

Reminiscent of Lynne Ramsey's desolate orphan tale Ratcatcher and Edet Belzberg's heartbreaking documentary about the lives of five Romanian street kids, Children Underground, "Father" is an unfliching, documentary-style clip set in a parentless UK council estate. Martial law on the playground is a tough brief for even the most seasoned director, but Pagan's Daniel Wolfe coaxes some truly extraordinary performances out of his principles here, conveying the greyness of their violence and drug-addled situations without resorting to cheap tricks of sensationalism. Feist> "Mushaboom"

Directed by RSA/Black Dog's Patrick Daughters (he of the Yeah Yeah Yeah's unimpeachable "Maps"), "Mushaboom" sees Canadian singer-songwriter Feist mixing a little of Björk's famed inscrutability into her own diet. As such, we get dancing slices of toast, unannounced leaps out of sixth-story windows and streetside dance sequences, complete with impromptu parades on horseback. Quirky, lovable and embedded with a French whimsy (Feist is huge in Paris), this is an appropriately charming personality piece that gets the tone of the song just right.
