Bicoastal hungry man has opened an in-house music video division with LA-based director Marcos Siega.
Siega, already on the roster at hungry man, left music video house Palomar in January before its recent implosion. The move came following Siega's decision to streamline his representation.
"I wanted to operate under one roof," explains Siega on his consolidation of spots and promos at hungry man. "I sat down with Steve [Orent, managing partner] and worked out a plan where I'd come in, shoot music videos to get the division going and also continue to focus on commercials."
The development should see other players on the hungry man roster experiment with the longer format. Siega believes the company's reputation in the commercial industry will stand its new division in good stead. "The labels will respect the production values and talent on the company reel."
Long-time rep Lanette Phillips -previously exec producer/in-house rep at Palomar - stays alongside Siega and should help make the transition a smooth one. Angela Jones also joins the hungry man crew as exec producer of the division.
Siega captured Music Video of the Year at the 2002 MVPA Awards for System of a Down's "Chop Suey". His promo for Blink 182's "All the Small Things" collected 1999 MTV Video Music Award. Other artists Siega has shot include Papa Roach, All American Rejects, Weezer, Kelly Osbourne and Anastasia.
Recently, Siega directed two episodes of Fox's Fastlane and an episode of Oliver Beene for Dreamworks/Fox.
He also directed two performance-based videos ("Blueside" and "Popstar") for Interscope artist Rooney, with DP John Schwartzman (Armageddon, Pearl Harbor).
"It's great traditional rock so we'll shoot in 35mm but give it an old '70s-style look by experimenting with telecine," Siega reveals.
