NSF Checks Compass

German production powerhouse neue sentimental film (NSF) has acquired a 51 percent stake in New York-based Compass Films.

Compass Films, run by partners Kathrin Lausch and Lise Ostbirk, was already linked to NSF by way of director Nico Beyer. Ingeborg Trampe, director of corporate communications for NSF explains her company's perspective on the deal.

"Compass was using some of our directors we have in our roster, such as Nico Beyer, and we've been speaking about them using more directors from our roster," says Trampe. Compass has a small and creative roster with European directors working in the US. This share thing, the 51 percent, came through a couple of weeks back. Now we are in the middle of talks on combining directors, [they're] using some of our other directors in the US."

From Compass' perspective, Ostbirk says the deal allows the company to stay autonomous, work with NSF on international projects, share directors and increase the production company's global presence. Additionally, Ostbirk says Compass is moving towards taking on US directors for representation outside of the US commercial marketplace.
