With Cannes right around the corner, São Paulo agencies are readying one of the country's finest exports: commercials.
Almap/BBDO has offered up new campaigns for VW, Audi, Embratel and Pepsi. "Lynx" for Audi is scored with dense electronic beats and shows a lynx pursuing an agile white hare through a snowy landscape. Escaping the big cat, the wily rabbit is likened to an Audi with the tag, "Your car can't just be cute, it's got to have an engine." O2 Filmes, São Paulo helped create the spot. Other spots for VW take the piss out of car commercial clichés. One Beetle spot has the car spinning across the screen only to culminate with the dizzy driver lurching out and stumbling away. "Sauna" has a young couple driving their Bora through the mist; suddenly an old man in a towel emerges from the mist and the woman castigates the man for driving into a sauna.
Creative directors Tião Bernardi, Rita Corradi and J. R. D'Elboux head up the Brazilian outpost of Young & Rubicam. Working with O2 Filmes, the agency recently produced a PSA for APAE and a commercial for Arno vacuum cleaners. Fernando Meirelles directed Arno's "Hair" which features a noisy garage band, all of whom sport hair swept straight up; when the lady upstairs turns off her vacuum their hair falls and their music takes on a sweeter tone. "Swimming Pool," has Brazilian Olympic swimmer Gustavo Borges preparing a group of youngsters for a swim; the kicker is, they have no pool. The stark black-and-white charity PSA was directed and shot by César Charlone of O2.
