Special Report: First Boards Awards
Adam Jenkins, Final Cut, London
Winner: Editors
by: Apr 1, 2001 Print

New Zealander Adam Jenkins, 28, entered the world of editing as a runner at Wellington's Silver Screen Productions. A clever sort of fellow, Jenkins taught himself how to use the Avid and was made edit assistant after about a year with the company. Soon enough he was made full editor and moved to Sydney.

"Lady Luck prevailed and after a small jaunt in Sydney I decided to take on London," recounts Jenkins. Massive amounts of travelling and many "an insane collection of jobs" later, Jenkins asked Rick Lawley of London's The Whitehouse for a job. He was directed to Final Cut's Kirk Baxter who in turn put him on to Rick Russell who hired him in August of 2000.

Boards: How would you describe your work on the spots you entered in First Boards?

Jenkins: Long and hard.

Boards: What's the biggest challenge facing a new editor?

Jenkins: Getting the work.

Boards: What are the advantages of being new to the scene?

Jenkins: Getting to work with fresh talent and learning.

Boards: In terms of editing, what influences your style?

Jenkins: The people I've work with like Rick Russell, Kirk Baxter and Gary Knight, and the people I've worked for such as Paul Maxwell and Jonathan Venz. But my influences are varied and vast. I do my best to sponge up anything I can.

Boards: Describe your way of working, both personally and in terms of collaborating with directors and creatives.

Jenkins: Hard, furious and crazy, with a hint of meticulous attention to the job at hand. As for collaborating, I love it and enjoy it. I like bouncing ideas around, it's good fun.

Boards: What has been your most memorable experience thus far as an editor?

Jenkins: Working with The Glue Society and Bruce Hunt, also working with Mehdi Norowzian. I learned loads and had a good laugh doing it.

Boards: What does the future hold for you?

Jenkins: As for the future, infinity and beyond, I'm not sure; just being open to whatever.
