Boards: What will be the main emphasis of Cintel at NAB?

Welsh: Cintel has two main objectives at NAB. First, Cintel would like to confirm to the post-production industry that Cintel is now a stable, focused, professionally run company committed to images of excellence and the continued evolution of its product range for the changing demands of the post-production industry. On October 17, 2000, the management team of Peter Giles and Paul Briggs acquired the business and assets of Cintel and Brimar, and thus, Cintel became a new company with 70 years' experience. With the start of the new Cintel, an extremely realistic business plan for the future of the company was created and implemented. The market has been very responsive to the new Cintel. In the past seven months, we have sold 12 C-Realitys (with 50 installed worldwide) and five Rascal Digitals (with 10 installed worldwide). These sales far exceeded our expectations, and our manufacturing team is burning the midnight oil to keep up with the market's demand.

Another objective for Cintel at NAB 2001 is to show the progression and evolution of our product range. Cintel is pushing the technical boundaries of the telecine industry with our advances in data. With the confusion in the marketplace over HD and the limitations of video, it is a natural progression for the industry to move into the more flexible solution of using data. In fact, at NAB 2001 and for the first time in the US, we will be showing true 4K data on our C-Reality. Cintel has already installed two C-Reality 4K machines in Europe at Wave, London and Listo Video, Vienna and is the only telecine manufacturer to have a commercially available telecine that can stream true 4K data.

Along with its advances in data, Cintel will also be showing a data compatible film grain and dirt removal device designed in collaboration with Digital Vision of Sweden.

Boards: How does this reflect what's going on in the industry -- the changes that have happened over the last year?

Welsh: The changes that are going on in the industry with regard to HD and Digital Cinema will all be benefited by a migration towards data technology. This would effectively mean that a post-production company could perform its work and provide a customer with his/her preferred product media whether it be film, HDTV, SDTV or data.

Boards: What will the emphasis of the show be in general? What do you think most of the attendees will be looking at closely?

Welsh: I think the general emphasis of the show will be to look at the various capture mediums available for images. I am sure that film is still the preferred choice, but the interest will be in how much closer the video capture devices are getting to film and the economics involved in the two. I am sure that in the US, a general malaise will be expected in the market due to the pending threats of a writers' and actors' guild strike making most companies unwilling to make large investments until the strike situation is resolved.
