Arman Matin, CG director/digital artist at New York-based Rhinoceros Visual Effects and Design, is a native of Bangladesh. After a brief stint at the now-defunct R. Greenberg Associates in New York (working on the CG aspects of the Dodge and Orkin spots that both won Clios), Matin was one of several RGA artists that made the move to Rhinoceros. Of late, Matin was creative director for 3M's "Scissors" through Grey Advertising, New York and ProAct Technologies' "Kinetic" through DiMassimo, New York.
"Scissors" contains photo-realistic CGI of an endless stream of scissors gliding upward to the heavens, their existence put to an end due to 3M's Tear-by-Hand packaging tape. "Kinetic" goes visceral by tracking huge spheres flying around a pinball structure to symbolically represent ProAct's ability to power human resourcefulness.
Now under the auspices of Rhinoceros, Matin has access to multiple brands of technology. "We are using the likes of Maya, inferno* and SOFTIMAGE to name a few," says Matin, who mixes various technologies in his work. "Rhinoceros have artists coming over from Israel, which has progressed in terms of the commercial field lately, and some of their ideas are going into our work. Plus we believe in an atmosphere where artists explore and examine their options carefully. We have CG directors, project leaders plus different team members and artists that become totally involved in the creative process."
