FM Rocks Spots
While many production companies relied on music videos to meet their bottom line during the six-month actors' strike, Santa Monica--based music video house FM Rocks launched its commercial division with directors F. Gary Gray, Dave Meyers, Tim Story, Gregory Dark and Todd Levin.

"I didn't think about the strike," says Craig Fanning who founded FM Rocks over nine years ago after working as an independent producer for Propaganda, Limelight and FYI. "When we came on board, we really didn't think there was going to be a strike," adds Eileen Terry, exec producer of the commercial division.

Terry joins the company from Tony K. where she served as exec producer since 1992, launching the LA office and developing new talent. Now she will focus on selling the roster at FM Rocks, all of whom, with the exception of Dark (who has made over 35 independent movies for Showtime, HBO, Cinemax and USA Network) have directed features.

Dark crossed over to mainstream entertainment from the porn industry where he shot adult films including New Wave Hookers and The Shocking Truth. Among his recent credits are music videos for Mandy Moore, Britney Spears, LFO and the Counting Crows. Gray recently wrapped a spot for Exxon/Mobil Oil out of Burrell Communications Group, Chicago, and directed The Negotiator (1998), Set It Off (1996) and Friday (1995). He has shot videos for Ice Cube, Coolio, Dr. Dre, TLC and Cypress Hill. Todd Levin has shot videos for Big Bad Voodoo Daddy and Candlebox, as well as documentaries for Janet Jackson and René Elizondo Jr.

Tim Story was cited by the Black Filmmakers Hall of Fame for his features One of Us Tripped (1995) and The Firing Squad (1998) respectively and has shot videos for NSYNC, Jagged Edge and Jon B.

David Meyers has directed videos for Creed, Kid Rock, Outkast, Pink and Juvenile. During the strike, Meyers shot three spots for P&G featuring the singing Pringles character through Grey Advertising. At press time, the director was filming a music video for Xzibit featuring Snoop Doggy Dogg and Dr. Dre.
